Benefiting Athletes in Action and Grady’s Decision

On Saturday, August 14, 2010 the family and friends of Graden Vincent Smith will host the Second Annual Graden Vincent Smith Memorial Golf Tournament at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie, PA. All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Grady’s Decision and Athletes in Action, the home of Grady’s Field. In 2008, Ryan and Katrina Smith gave birth to twins born 3 months premature. Unfortunately, Graden lived only 52 hours. To further the legacy through this little boy, the Smith’s want to redirect the love and support they have received to assist other families that experience the financial and emotional hardships of premature delivery as well as continue to partner with Athletes in Action (AIA).

Grady’s Decision was created to present a glimpse of God’s love to families experiencing premature births. We will be a beacon of hope through prayer, words of encouragement, gifts, and acts of kindness. Grady’s website and cause will provide an avenue for people to donate and assist these family members during this difficult and emotional time. All money raised for Grady’s Decision will continue to provide local families the resources needed for things like: parking passes, gas cards, gift certificates, car seats, etc.

Athletes in Action is a non-profit organization that works with athletes and coaches to use the unique platform of sports to help people around the world with questions of faith. In 2009, AIA dedicated a newly constructed 550 seat baseball stadium that bears the name “Graden Vincent Smith Memorial Field” (Grady’s Field). Ultimately, AIA hoped that their baseball stadium’s naming rights, which is located in Xenia, OH, would go to a person who has an appreciation for God’s ability to transform lives and receive honor through the game of baseball. After hearing the Smith’s story, they wanted their stadium to tell the story of a couple who put their trust in Jesus even through the most difficult times.

To date, we have raised over to $150,000, and this tournament will help us continue our vision in completing the construction of Grady’s Field, in addition to contributing to NICU families in need of support. Please join us for a day of golf for a worthy cause. As a result of the overwhelming response from the First Annual Tournament, we have made several changes and improvements to the event. Specifically, we are offering a double shot gun start as we filled the course last year! The first group will tee off at 8:00 am with the remaining foursomes beginning at 2:00 pm. Additionally, the dinner will be a buffet prepared by regionally renowned Chef Bill Hoffman from Kingdom Catering. We will also hold the dinner at Grace Church which is located next to the entrance of Whispering Woods. Dinner will follow the tournament.
